29-Day Giving Challenge

Things have been so busy I have not gotten around to posting- BUT I have gotten around to giving gifts still :)

I ended on Day 6, the Vegan Cook for my friend- She LOVED it! We have already made a list of things we want to try to cook together.  I'm excited for that!

Day 7- Wednesday July 20th- My gift was pretty simple but I think it all meant a lot.  My sister is planning her wedding for next June and it's already insane! She is on the other side of the coast and her wedding is going to be here in California, therefore she has the whole family doing a lot of things.  My parents have been meeting with the videographer, photographer, decorator, etc.  They don't always agree and I have been playing mediator for them.  However, in the past couple of weeks I have been so busy that I haven't really gotten around to wedding talk w/ her (can't say I was disappointed).  When I was at my parent’s house on Sunday I heard them arguing with my sister regarding the wedding and costs of things, this is usually where I stay away.  Today I decided my gift to my parents as well as my sister will be an ear to listen.  I called my parents first and let my mom vent on and on about everything and then I called my sister and did the same.  I tried to explain to both of them where the others were coming from.  I think me, being a 3rd party, made them understand slightly.  I then did some searching on the web for Engagement Photo Shoot ideas for my sister and sent them her way…she loved a couple of them and planning on using it.  Another gift I gave was coffee creamer and a thank you card for one of my coworkers.  Everyone in the office is use to things being used from others when left in the kitchen.  My coworker has been complaining that people always use her creamer (I am also guilty of this - but tell her each time) and so I figured a nice gift for her would be a powder creamer she can leave at her desk.  The thank you card was short and sweet telling her thanks for the creamer and the morning talks at work.  Last but not least, I am dog sitting another coworker’s dog from Wed-Saturday.

Day 8- Thursday July 21st- My gift today was to my little sister.  I am part of the Big Brother/Big Sister league here in SD and I have been paired up with my Little Sister for about 2 months now.  Once a week we do some kind of activity where she can go out and have a good time.  We've gone to the SD fair, biking on the bay, the science museum, Old Town in SD where we made candles and ate junk food on the street, etc. Today was her 5th grade promotion at 10am.  I wasn't sure if I was going to make it because of work but was able to push some things around and made it there w/ flowers and a balloon in hand. When I saw her face light up it when she saw me in the crowd it was an amazing feeling. The graduation was BEAUTIFUL, all the 5th graders were so excited and their families so proud.  I got a little teary eyed when I saw this.  Made me think about how sweet and innocent these kids are and I wanted to hug each and every one of them (of course I didn't because that would of scared some people :P) Some of the kids said their memories from elementary school and what they want to be, it was amazing to be a part of this.

Day 9- Today, Friday July 22nd, I gave myself the gift of yoga!  Yoga has been such a blessing for me.  A way for me to release stress and to focus on the positives.  Sometimes I get very overwhelmed in what I have left to do and it sometimes feels like things will never slow down.  However, one hour in yoga seems like hours of peace and stillness.  We have a yoga instructor at work and every Friday she teaches a class.  I have been in over a month because of my busy schedule. I was certain I wasn’t going to be able to go today but made time for it (even if that means a little bit more work over the weekend) and it was exactly what I needed. My body was so tense and stressed that every move hurt, but leaving that class I felt refresh and like I can do this day all over again.  It was a nice gift and I’m glad I took the time to do it! I’m going to take Pepper (the dog I’m dog sitting) on a run and some play time at the dog park before I have to give her back to her owner :(

Hope you all have a great weekend of giving!

You are definitely a busy little giver.  Wedding planning can be very stressful and even more so when it is being done by long distance -- so I know that all your familoy appreciate your help.  Being a "Big Sister" is such a special gift -- you are definitely touching that young girl's heart!  I hope that you can relax and have a joyful weekend.
