Today my gift was the gift of a good idea. Today was grocery shopping day for our house, and I have been looking forward to this day a little bit because I have lately been hearing tales about how much Katie dislikes going to CostCo. Now this is interesting because it is a strange attitude for Katie to have, Katie is a mostly positive person, who pretty much always makes the best out of every situation. I swear, Katie could make friends with a badger, AND probably turn it into a herbivore! Stephen claims that they have to shop as quickly as they (or I guess better put, he) can because he is afraid that she is going to have a total meltdown in the store... so maybe you can understand my fascination with this.
For my gift today I came up with an idea, Katie states that she dislikes going to CostCo because of the shear number of people and the amount of "bad" food choices that you can see people buying there in bulk. My idea was that Katie could hand out some of her favorite healthy recipes while we were there. We printed out multiple copies of 3 simple healthy recipes; banana and oatmeal pancakes, raw kale salad, and baked sweat potato chips.
Katie handed these out while Stephen and I were shopping. Okay, so it didn't make her day (she still had to go with us) but, it did vastly improve her mean mood level. Stephen gave her a B- overall, but an A++ for improvement. My gift today was simple, and idea, but who knows, maybe someone will really try the recipe that they were handed while grocery shopping by a strange young woman. Maybe it will make just the littlest bit of difference in their day. Maybe they will try something new and awaken their taste of adventure... who knows...
I very much look forward to my giving for tomorrow, which I have been planning and working on since basically day 2 of this challenge!!!

Comment by Dawn wwt on August 12, 2012 at 12:52pm at the very least, your idea gave Katie something to focus on other than the things that drive her wild while she was in the store. and you never know when you randomly plant 'seeds' like that what kind of fruit they'll bear down the line. i love this story on so many levels! i can't wait to hear about more of your creative giving adventures. Hugs, Dawn
Let us know how it goes! Loved you gifts and post!
Katie sounds like a special person, and I'll bet she touched many, herself, with the recipes. That was a great idea....It sounds like you have a wonderful plan of action, I'm looking forward to reading about it!
