I’ve been thinking a lot about ‘commitment’ lately, synonymous with the word ‘promise’. I’ll be the first to admit that committing to the 29 Gifts Challenge is hard. We all struggle through it. I remember how much easier it was during my first giving cycle; I was miserable and desperately seeking change in my life. (That was a great motivator.) One evening, towards the end of my first 29 days, I nearly had a panic attack when I remembered that I hadn’t yet given. Luckily, I was at 12-Step Meeting at the time and the opportunity to give money presented itself. I don’t think I’ll ever forget how glad I was to be able to give my three dollars that day. Have you ever forgotten your give? If so, share you thoughts on this discussion thread: What To Do If You Forget To Give?’
My mom recently suggested that I re-commit to giving and start on Day One. I have been sick for two months and am under INTENSE financial stress. I am re-commiting to start a new cycle October 10th, and hope you will all join me. When we fully commit to something, often God steps in to do for us what we cannot do for ourselves.
Most who read my blog know I’ve been divorced from my ex Mark for two years now. I’ve lived in Denver, Colorado since we split up and began dating my wonderful boyfriend, Kevin last September. I proposed to Kevin recently and he said YES. On Tuesday (between dr visits) we bought rings and went to the court house to make our commitment with our sweet 84-year-old-friend, Lucy as our bridesmaid. It was her first time being a bridesmaid!
We would love congrats cards sent to the 29 Gifts Corporate Headquarters: PO Box 686, Kimball, NE 69145
We don’t need gifts, and will not register anywhere. If you WANT to send something, we’ll make this easy on you: We are two adults living in a one-bedroom house. We have plenty of stuff. We could use a sofa (the one we have hurts to sit on) and we would like to put a garden in our new back yard. So, think GIFT CARDS from Home Depot, IKEA, West Elm or Target. Honestly, the best gift of all would be prayers and happy wishes from you all. Post comments on this discussion to offer congrats and any marital advice for me. Lord knows my first marriage didn't end ideally. My mom will forward cards sent to the 29 Gifts Nebraska Address Above.
So Let's all take a cue from my mom and re-commit to giving Oct 1-29 and do it together. As 29Gifts.org Community Manager Deb says, "Giving is LIVING!"
Quick Personal Health Update: I had to cancel my Canada trip. Have been at the ER four times in ten days and just got admitted at St Luke's Hospital in Denver to be get my health stable. I got bad news about my MRIs done yesterday and will need to go back on all my medication -- which means pregnancy won't happen for me and I am heartbroken. I would love all the prayers and positive energy that you can send--and all the encouraging comments you can post on this blog string. Please do not email me. It stresses me out when I get tons of email, even when it is nice things. I would love cards sent to the 29 Gifts Headquarters PO Box 686, Kimball, NE 69145 or leave your well wishes here as a comment. Thank you for all of your love, concern and support.

Weekly Wise Words “Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. The moment one definitely commits oneself, providence moves too. All manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamed come his way. Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it." -- Goethe, Johann Wolfgang Von

Speaking for my country, Canada will still be here, and we look forward to seeing and hearing you when you feel better. Thank you for everything. Comment by Debbie on September 30, 2011 at 6:02am Marriage advice: Marriage is hard! It is like any good job that you want to keep. Everyday is a new day, start each day with a positive attitude! Assume you are wrong, once in a while. Treat him like gold, a hot commodity! Love, love, love, like there is no tomorrow! Forgive, like you would want to be forgiven! Call him once in a while, just to tell him you love him. Spend time together, doing things you both like to do. Seek to find out what those things are, think outside of the box! The more you give, the more you will receive from him. Love him more than he loves you!
Life is a gift, share it with those you love!
Best wishes!
Debbie
