For me, this journey began with a chance trip to the library in late December 2010. As I headed to the check out desk with the items I was going to take home that day, a book title caught my attention. "29 Gifts" jumped out at me so I stopped and read about the book. As it turns out, in late November during a sermon at church one Sunday, I had gotten an idea very similar to the premise of the book. I had actually written down on the bulletin a list of 30 things, both general and specific, that I could do for others in December, and my plan was to start immediately. Somehow, though, as with so many of my good intentions, that bulletin (but not that idea) had gone by the wayside, so when I read about "29 Gifts" I knew this was a book I wanted to read. I thought I would be reading fiction though, so I was surprised as I read to find out Cami's story was very real. As I read the book written by Cami about herself and her own journey with MS, I realized once again how very blessed I am to have my health. Even though she went through a whole gamut of emotions with her disease, ultimately her faith brought her to a place where she was able to see the gifts she had been given and want to share those with others. As soon as I saw the website in the book, I went to my computer and logged in. I was surprised to see I had to fill out an "application" and be accepted to be a part of this "Pay it Forward" style movement.
But I did it.
And I was accepted.
So here I go!
