On Friday, I went to Chapman University in Orange for a memorial celebration of Huell Howser's life and work, particularly his TV series, California's Gold. I took my Mom with me and she was very glad that she was able to go, since she likely would not have gone on her own (and my Dad wasn't interested). It was nice to be able to go with someone and see the various presentations made.
(For those of you who live in California, you certainly know Huell Howser. If you don't, you can look up "Huell Howser Archive" and view any of his TV shows, as they have been archived online by Chapman University in Orange.)

Comment by BlueMoon67 on February 10, 2013 at 7:10pm Thanks, Deb and Lois! He is very dear to Californians as he showcased our state through a collection of interviews, comprising a unique archive of oral history. He even established a California Gold Scholarship through Chapman University and we got to see the first scholarship recipient at the ceremony. They also presented a posthumous Honorary Doctorate to Huell Howser as well. We also got to see some rare film clips that Chapman had in its possession, including a commencement address and the very last public speech he gave a few months before his death.
Fantastic day!
It sounds like a day of fun and companionship with your Mom..
