International aid organizations are devoting an unprecedented effort to assist Haiti as it recovers from the devastating earthquake of late January. The Clinton Global Initiative, upheld by advisor to former President Clinton
Doug Band, in particular, has been particularly active. The CGI has coordinated the efforts of several smaller focus organizations including Inveneo, NetHope, and AidMatrix. Band has also been coordinating partnerships with several large corporations, including the United Postal Service, Procter and Gamble, and others.
Clean water will be paramount to health maintenance and to stop the spread of disease. To these ends Procter and Gamble has committed enough materials to purify 60 million liters of water as Haiti attempts to rebuild its basic service delivery infrastructure. Several other CGI partner members have joined the effort including, but not limited to, the Abbott Fund, Americares Foundation, Architecture for Humanity, Becton, Dickinson, and Co, and even academic institutions like Boston University.
