What's been great about this round is that I've rediscovered more spontaneous, personal giving. Not just opportunities to strangers (though that, too), but personalized opportunities. Much of that was because I interacted with more people, and also because of events outside my control (the soup kitchen manager retiring, the coffee shop girl leaving for college, etc.)
I ended this round by emailing my neighbour about CaringBridge. I haven't known what to do for her, and given our history, my sense has been to back off (sometimes that can be a gift, too). But I know she loves her computer, and I imagine she's inundated with questions from people. So hopefully she and her husband will find it useful.
This morning, I felt down. I knew I had to get outside. I placed a Post-it in a washroom: BREATHE and enjoy this beautiful day. I stuck to my new tradition of writing what I need to hear, and also what I feel authentic in writing. And I wanted to change it up a little :)
I ran into the woman whose dog I've been voting for, and she invited me to go with her, to take her pup to a local dam/lake to cool off. At first, I said no... then I realized I'd just been moping about being lonely, and maybe I needed a good distraction. So I went, and it was fun to watch her (the dog) splash around. She's a very... unconventional swimmer, and it's really adorable. I took a couple of videos and then sent them to my friend.
And I picked up goodies from the coffee shop at the end of the day. I miss the young woman who went off to college - she used to come up with 6-8 bags of leftovers on Saturdays, and now they give me mostly the same as any other day. Perhaps she was breaking the rules. Any donations are good; it was just more fun when I could take 20lbs of food in, instead of a dozen muffins.
This evening, I tried to give another granola bar and was turned down. The woman said she needed change for the bus, and she didn't think the bus would accept granola bars. I agreed and apologized that I didn't have any change to give her.
I wonder what the next 29 days will bring? :)
Hope you all had a great Saturday - Cheers!
