Today my gift was to reach out to one of the circles of parenting community I'm in and talk about monosexism. I want to be sure to hold space for our child outside labels or any expectations I might have about his orientation. I hope he feels free to love and engage in positive consensual relationships - with people who will cherish him and hold the complexicities of his experience and life. I don't really care how that person or those people identify and how they present their gender. I care about how healthy and loving their relationships will be.
I find gender, sexed bodies, community identification, sexual and romantic behavior, and identity so much more complex than binary thinking. Labels can be so limiting...

I do reference the Genderbread person often however http://itspronouncedmetrosexual.com/2012/01/the-genderbread-person/ Monosexism is about thinking everyone is either gay or straight and that there's only two orientations and likely only two genders. hmpf.
