D2 My gift was to check out another potential dog abuse situation I saw after picking up my stepson. I found that the dog was fine, thin and maybe occasionally tied up in a yard - but well loved and happy none-the-less. I also had the opportunity to talk my stepson so he knew I was watching and would report abuse if I saw or found out about it.

D3 My gift was to confront one of my stepson's doctors yet again on an issue (a procedure I felt is unnecessary and totally based on white european standards of growth/puberty) but very nicely and then back up my stepson when he said he didn't want the unnecessary procedure. yah go team!

Your stepson is so lucky to have you in his life.  You are setting a great example for him and showing him that you care about him and about all God's creatures.

I just say the dog is only a block away from his school so I saw it on the drive out.

It is so much more effective when you can present your opinion in a polite and controlled manner (but it's not always easy!).  Way to go.
