D7 My gift was patience during a difficult interaction (difficult for me because I kept my thoughts & opinions to myself and put the dog & kid first) with one of the people I knew was beating that dog I mentioned a week or two ago. I offered to find the dog a home during the conversation that I endured and the person agreed. I then coordinated pickup this same evening and had to deal with all the toxic feelings I had and suck it up to get the dog out and try to have some compassion for the kid caught in the middle. sigh. It was a hard night and I still feel sick about dealing with these people and that they might get another dog... but we made a rescue!!
D8 My gift was facilitating a big trip to the zoo for the Pumpkin Bash for several kids and grown ups too. It was a lot of organizing 8 kids plus some adults but it was super fun. We saw kamoto dragons eating rats out of pumpkins, elephants smashing and eating pumpkins, wolf running off with pumpkin treats, floating mini-pumpkins with fish in them for the penguins and more.
D9 My gift today was sharing from the heart at a coffee social and then therefore making some real connection with two people I hadn't really ever talked to before - learning things about them:)

You just never know who you just saved...
Me, my 17-lb pekingese/spaniel mix came to me (rescued by me, I guess) out of being kicked out to live in a backyard in -20 degree weather. Not an easy conversation to figure out how to start, for me at least, but went as smooth as it could have, really, once we got going, and all of a sudden he was just handed over. And never left. :-)
Although he doesn't seem to be a painter.
:-)
Good for us---

Wow I am so proud of you (I mean that in the highest possible way, respectful & admiring, not condescending)... to find a solution in a difficult situation with the dog & make it happen. I know you cannot control what happens with the family, but for that one dog... that situation is over. Have you ever heard that saying (I've seen this as posters at shelters): "Rescuing a dog does not change the dog, but it does change the world for that one dog." And that is what you have done. Good for you--lucky dog.
Have you seen the piece online recently about the one-eyed bulldog who got adopted & turned out to be a painter? Kind of "grumpy" personality according to the new owner after being abused, but happy now... I will see if I can find it, just for fun...
So proud for you--
L
Way to get it done...so glad you made the rescue of the darling dog!!
