I am on University holidays at the moment and I have been giving myself the gift of rest, relaxation and enjoying some exercise!
My husband Kristen is wonderful; he is a constant source of positivity and encouragement. Over the past six months he has been working at a different office for his company, which has added 2-3 hours commuting per day. He rarely ever complains but I am noticing that the long days are beginning to take their toll.
During my 29 Gift challenge I decided that I wanted to organise an elaborate and memorable gift for him. I have organised flights and accommodation for a long weekend away in Melbourne, so Kristen can watch his favourite football team play. Kristen played junior footy with the Captain of one of the teams, without him knowing I got the player’s number from his phone and have organised a catch up. I’ve also organised a family dinner with his relatives who live there. I was thrilled that this match happened to fall on the weekend we will be celebrating his birthday.
I had been waiting for the perfect time to share the surprise with him and it arrived recently. In Australia we have a football competition called the ‘State of Origin’. Kristen is a mad Queensland supporter! A local radio station had a competition where 7 Queensland players each said one word in a 7 word sentence and people had to guess the players in correct order. The competition had been running for a week and only one player had been guessed correctly. Kristen was lucky enough to get through and he guessed 6 correctly (incorrectly guessing one player resulted in him missing out on accommodation and flights to go and see the game live).
This was my opportunity!! I wrote him a letter saying “you may not have won the 7 in a row competition but you have won….and I listed all of the details of our weekend”.
This was such a fun moment, he was so happy and surprised. I am so appreciative to be in the position to be able to organise a gift that I know he will just love. I can’t wait for this trip away together!
