One of the boards I belong to on Ravelry is for people employed in the "Ivory Tower." There was a grad student there who will be teaching her first class this term, and asked what she should know about teaching freshman. I wrote out quite a long piece of advice for her that I hope will help, starting with the cardinal rule for college instructors, "never assign more than you want to grade." (I'm one who always gets these brilliant ideas for really cool assignments, then says, "Oh, dear, now I have to grade these -- what were my criteria?")

You really make a difference every day by what you do. I need to be more like you!
Now that is super advice! I was just thinking about that the other day....it has to be totally different grading college papers versus what high school teachers grade and how they grade. I know your advice was appreciated!
