I've been staring at Wind Map for much of the day, not only for the beauty of the scratchboard-like quality of the real-time animation of current wind conditions, but also in awe of the size, extent, and influence of Hurricane Sandy. Because good hurricane images are useful in our biology classes (in the context of atmospheric and ocean currents that influence biogeography, in talking about climate and climate change, and the human influence on the ecosystem), I thought it would be a good resource. Since the map is in real time, I took some screen shots and video captures and posted them on our instructor website for others to use long after the weather conditions change. Here's where the hurricane was earlier today:
